What We Do



The Organization’s programme focuses on its three (3) strategic sectors namely: Livelihood (including promotion of improved and Sustainable Agriculture through availing improved seedlings, tools, herbicides and pesticide), Education (including giving a helping hand to disadvantaged girls and boys within the community by providing scholastic materials, identifying and paying their school fees among others), rehabilitation (especially of boys engaged in drug abuse, petty crimes through sports, development of talent and engaging them in vocational trainings such as welding, carpentry) and Climate Change. MarCDC is therefore established for the purpose of acting in the overall interest of the community with respect to:
Empowering the young girls through the Girl Child Porgramme and ensuring their increased participation in communities. Some of these programs include offering vocational training courses to adolescent and disadvantaged girls such as tailoring Program, cosmetology, hair dressing, among others. These program focus on providing girls with skills and giving them tools such as enrolling them for short vocational trainings, identifying job opportunities and above all, setting up businesses in line with their pursued trainings from which they can derive income to deal with unfair realities in their daily lives. Promoting Boy Child Programme. Maracha Community Development Initiative therefore believes that in order to sustain and empower girl child, the boy child needs to be empowered, supported, guided and rehabilitated. The Organization therefore intends to;
- Emphasize on the recreation and rehabilitation of youths especially the boy child who have continued to engage in drug abuse and petty crimes.
- Promote, develop, and encourage sports activities, drama, music and such other talents that can be identified and developed in boys.

Sustainable Agriculture Programme. Maracha Community Development Centre (MarCDC) through its strategic plan intends to achieve Sustainable Agriculture by appropriately linking Research to Farmers to ensure that there is knowledge, skill, understanding and technology for manipulating and dealing with:
- The physicochemical factors, such as soils, climate, moisture, day length, among others and the way they change and interact so that they can be manipulated or given due consideration in efforts aimed at creating favorable conditions.
- The biological elements of the production system in terms of crops and/or animals whose products are required in relation to their interaction in the agro-ecosystem with weeds, pests, and even beneficial and non-beneficial organisms that shapes their environment.
- Providing appropriate technologies at the disposal of the farmer.
The economic viability and ecological soundness, based on the farmer’s managerial ability and operational cost-effectiveness, market and pricing structure, with respect to maintenance of environmental quality, prevailing infrastructure and policy environment. Read more…
Climate Change Programme. Maracha Community Development Centre (MarCDC) focuses on generating knowledge and sharing information related to climate change adaptation and ways of mitigating the causes and impact of climate change in Uganda. We therefore intend to:
- Enhance awareness of reforestation and afforestation through setting up training programs to increase knowledge on trees of both local and international species.
- Create a nursery that makes seedlings of various tree species available to everyone. Read more…
Support to Grand parents programme.
Maracha Community Development Centre (MarCDC) focuses on community strength and resources by raising awareness among communities to help the elderly persons. In order to achieve this, MarCDC intends to visit homes of elderly persons across Maracha District, have one on one discussion with them, identify their challenges and offer basic needs. We have therefore come up with a budget and in order to achieve the above objectives. Read more
