Promoting Boy Child Programme

Numerous initiatives and resources have been put in place to save and protect the health and sexual rights of girls and women. But who is there for the poor boys, for those that have been neglected, for those who are already engaged in drugs and petty crimes? Sadly, a big number of boys grow into men long before they become men. Young boys especially the adolescents face several challenges and unfortunately, the society has kept a deaf ear and blind eye to their howls
Therefore, due to lack of guidance, countless boys, as they transition into adulthood, face several challenges hence many boys in Uganda have fallen victims of crimes or even commit crimes themselves most of whom get imprisoned for months or years and others have engaged in taking drugs such as marijuana, drinking alcohol, stealing for wealth, gambling off property, leaving home at a tender age to start their own home, being rude and unruly. Many boys feel that through these they are the real men, yet these have led them to early death or suicide, getting mental breakdowns, or being imprisoned.
Ironically, despite the fact that many government policies and Organizations have been put in place to empower the girl child, the persistency and high rates of unwanted pregnancies, abortions, and sexual violence among girls in Uganda and especially in Maracha District, Drambu Sub county has still remained a very big challenge. Research indicates that the continuous conspicuous omission of boys/men in the interventions to combat this menace could be a long-life impediment to the realization of sustainable health for girls and women in the region.
Maracha Community Development Initiative therefore believes that in order to sustain and empower girl child, the boy child needs to be empowered, supported, guided and rehabilitated. The Organization therefore intends to;
- Emphasize on the recreation and rehabilitation of youths especially the boy child who have continued to engage in drug abuse and petty crimes.
- Promote, develop, and encourage sports activities, drama, music and such other talents that can be identified and developed in boys.
- Enroll and train boys in short vocational courses such as welding, carpentry among others.
